Working with glass

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 3, 2009, 2:56 PM

The Dealio

Well, as I mentioned in my last post (forever ago), ~memmek proposed to me.  A lot of what I've been doing lately has been centered around wedding planning.  It took a few months, but I finally got the engagement ring!  It's kind of hard to describe, but it's a single square sapphire set in white gold.

This semester I've signed up for the Glassblowing class (cer eng 300), which has turned out to be totally awesome so far.  I've made four paperweights so far, but the only one I've gotten back was the one I posted:   The others need to be ground down a little so they'll sit on a flat surface!

I've been told that I will be making many, many things over this semester, and I was wondering...do you all think I should sell some of the paperweights?  If I did, I'd probably part with them for $10-20, depending on size and prettiness.  What do you think?

Eventually, I'll be learning how to make cups and mugs and bowls, which is exciting!  I'll try to get some pictures eventually of me actually working the glass.

Also, thank you for welcoming me back (you know who you are).    It means a lot to me.

I would definitely try to sell them. They are quite awesome. ;)

I think I'm going to put them all in a box and let close family members each pick out one they like, and then sell what doesn't get taken. There's a few I'm going to keep for myself, of course. :D

Haha, thanks! I knew that when my department in college started offering this course, if I didn't take advantage of it now, I'd probably never learn how to do it.
