The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

The Dealio

Grrr. Okay, so I had this awesome, rambling journal all typed up and ready to go. I was just ready to write the final paragraph when IE died on me. Now, why am I using IE, you might ask? Well, I was using firefox, but it was crashing even more than IE. Why? This newfangled dA thing is just destroying my web browsers left and right.

  I think I need to reformat.  *sigh*  Anyways, here's the short version.

I'm finally all caught up!  I actually read the comments and looked at deviations this time!  If you made something before today (July 11), and I didn't comment on it, link me to it and I'll give it a gander.

School was fine, I ended up with an A in Thermodynamics but a C in Macroeconomics.  Go figure.

I was going to go through and play all three Halo games with one of the guys I'm now living with (being out of the dorms is wonderful), but his Xbox 360 died a slow and painful death.  He had time to mod/fix it, though, before the video card completely died!  Pictures here.

Uhmm....my boyfriend, ~memmek, proposed to me on my birthday a few weeks ago.  It's kind of a big deal.

I don't have a ring yet--I'm being picky (a moral kind of pickiness, not an aesthetic one. ask me about it if you're curious). We're figuring out a date for the wedding. I'm personally going for late May 2009. I'll be sure to let you all know

That's all the important bits. If I get the will, I'll rewrite my large ramble-y version. But I probably won't.

Okay, a few more things.  First off, let me go ahead and say it here: I have resigned my position over at #Apophysis.  Believe me, it was about time--I really want someone else in there that will have more enthusiasm for the club than I had at the end.  I enjoyed it, I'm glad I did it, but it's time for me to move on--and it's time for the club to get some fresh blood.

Second off, I am a huge dork.  I have now beat the Rock Band solo tours for both vocals and guitar...on expert.  Yeah, you read that right.  I need a life.  *goofy grin*

Also, dA seems to have fixed whatever the problem was that was causing my browsers to crash.  Yippee!

Yes, DA keeps making my internet crash too, and yesterday when I clicked on something, my whole computer went off, then minutes later it restarted by itself

I hope they hurry up and fix these bugs, it's scary !!
