Artist's Comments

This was my final work for Painting I, the first art class I've taken since like 6th grade. This piece is also based on a photograph my father took a year (I think) ago. It was taken in the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, and that month they were featuring works of blown glass by Dale Chihuly. Here is a picture of the same thing I painted (not the exact same picture, of course).

Anyways, this is the culmination of everything I did in that class, and I quite proud of it. I ended up giving it to my dad at the end of the semester. I think I spent about 10 hours on it? Maybe? Don't quite remember.

'Tis lovely, especially the subtle reflections in the water. The coloring and style (sorry for my lack of proper terminology) of the trees strikes me as impressionism. Clicked the links and was astonished to read the sculptures are blown glass.

So good to see you posting again. :)

Heh, I don't really know the proper terms either--this class was mostly a therapy painting session, lol (what more could you expect from a university where 90% of the grads major in engineering?). Chihuly is soooo inspiring. I hope to have some lampwork glass beads up here eventually, once they start sucking less :D

Glad to be back. I was showing someone Apophysis, and then like totally came up with something awesome. Unfortunately, it wasn't on my computer, so I'll have to see if I can recreate it...

Lol, and about the impressionism--I'm kind of a perfectionist, and I knew that if I started making every single leaf, I'd go absolutely crazy. So I was definitely chanting "impressionism" in my head as I did all the trees.
